# Cannot Add or Edit Configuration

### Symptom

Normally you should be able to modify the configuration of Toolpack System through the Web Portal. For example, you should be able to add hardware via the Hardware page by clicking the link 'Create New Hardware' in the top left hand corner for the page as in the diagram below.

However, it may occur that you cannot modify the configuration. For example, in the Hardware page, the 'Create New Hardware' link is not available as in the diagram below.

### Solution

This problem usually occurs in a new Toolpack Platform installation, for example, when you have just installed a new Toolpack software on a host or you have a new TMG3200. The reason is that the active configuration is locked.

To solve this, first select 'Systems' from the navigation panel. Select 'Edit' on the configuration in the System List.

If you find that the checkbox for 'Lock active configuration' is checked as in the diagram below, uncheck it and click the 'Save' button to save your changes.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://prosbcdocs.telcobridges.com/tmedia-documentation/server-and-os-administration/cannot-add-or-edit-configuration.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
